kiin

is my solo music project that aims to capture the raw emotion of life and translate it into a sonic medium. It stays within the realm of synth-pop, while using synthesizer-based melodies and ambient textures to fill out the canvas of sound.

Currently, the first release out is Love Asphyxiation, a leading single to the upcoming EP release titled Waning, set to release sometime in December.

Love Asphyxiation is a synth-pop mix mainly composed using the Arturia Microfreak for melodic and textural syntheied sounds. The drum samples were taken from a sample pack, and mixed to fit the aesthetic of the song.

The lyrical content describes a nieve look into a budding relationship, one where the singer pleads for affirmation on if their strong feelings are reciprocated by the partner.

Modular Synthesis

IMMOLATION

Immolation is a modular synthesis live performance piece that I created through VCV rack. It was created as a final project for my Audio Synthesis Techniques class. In this class, we learned how to build, manipulate, and perform modular synthesis racks from scratch, as well as diving deep into the history of audio synthesis.

For the final project, we had the choice to either create a prerecorded song to play in front of the class, or perform our own racks live, and I chose to perform live. I used my AKAI MPK Mini Mk.II to control different timbre and volume sliders through MIDI mapping, and used that to create different "phases" of my piece.

There were 9 different instruments I created for this piece, including 3 synth layers, a bass, 2 drum layers, and 3 SFX layers. Each of these were controlled by a MIDI controller, so that way I could fade them in/out at will, as well as changing the timbre of these different layers.

The drums were fully controlled by MIDI, meaning I actually played the drum beat using the trigger pads on the AKAI MPK Mini.

A video of my final performance is available for watch. If you want you listen to an audio-only recording of this piece, you can do so here.
